Is this democracy?
The recent maneuver by Democrat leadership to shut the Republicans out of the budget process certainly does not bode well for those hoping for bipartisan efforts in Augusta this legislative session.
While the budget is rarely part of the League’s policy focus, we do find the decision to implement a procedure that has only been utilized three times in the last seventy years as troubling.
If this partisan spirit prevails, it is going to be very difficult for Democrats to resist the will of the House and Senate caucuses in upcoming votes related to the life issue, religious freedom and parental rights.
Last week, I asked you to consider contacting Mike McClellan, the League’s policy director, to discuss with him the possibility of directly contacting your legislators.
The power play by the Democrat majority makes efforts to personally reach out to legislators via letters and phone calls even more critical.
Please email Mike at cclmainepolicy@gmail.com or call him at 329-6148. He can answer your questions about what bills to address, talking points, and the contact information of your legislator(s).
Please check out our website, cclmaine.org, regularly to stay current on the bills we are presently tracking. Go to cclmaine.org; click the Home tab, and then Upcoming Legislation to see the bills, their committee assignments, and status (public hearing schedule, floor votes, etc.).
