Maine has some of the most extreme abortion laws in the country — including unrestricted abortion up to the moment of birth and zero regulations on chemical abortions. These bills are a vital step toward protecting unborn children, ensuring the safety of women, and respecting the convictions of taxpayers.
On March 28, the Joint Standing Committee on Judiciary will hold public hearings on several critical pro-life bills. These bills are important steps toward protecting unborn children, ensuring the safety of women, and preventing taxpayer funding of abortion.

Key Bills to Support
✅ LD 682 – Rolls back Maine’s extreme full-term abortion law by limiting late-term abortions only to cases where the baby has been diagnosed with a fatal fetal anomaly. While this bill isn’t the final goal, it is a critical step in the right direction.
✅ LD 886 – Regulates chemical abortions by requiring that abortion drugs be prescribed by a licensed healthcare professional, who must be present for the procedure. The bill also mandates that patients are informed about the physical, emotional, and spiritual risks of chemical abortion and that women are told that abortion pill reversal is possible.
✅ LD 887 – Ensures safer disposal of abortion drugs and requires healthcare professionals to examine patients in person before prescribing these drugs. This bill also mandates a follow-up appointment within seven days and requires manufacturers to be responsible for the proper disposal of these drugs to prevent environmental contamination.
✅ LD 1007 – Strengthens informed consent laws by ensuring that women undergoing chemical abortions are told about the possibility of abortion pill reversal. The bill ensures that women know reversal is a safe option and that studies show no increased maternal mortality or birth defects after a successful reversal.
✅ LD 253 – Ends taxpayer-funded abortion in Maine, ensuring that Mainers are not forced to fund abortions with their tax dollars.
