Dear Friend,
In July 2010, I began my unanticipated journey as Executive Director of the Christian Civic League of Maine. I did not know what to expect, but Terri and I were both convinced this was the path God clearly set before us. I couldn’t have imagined how simultaneously fulfilling and challenging the next 14+ years would be. The support and encouragement I’ve received from individuals and churches as we’ve witnessed the Lord rebuilding this vulnerable institution is something I will always cherish.
Just as clearly as God led me into the League, He has now confirmed my time directing this great organization is ending. I am humbled that the Lord used me to help restore and revitalize the League, but it is now time for a younger, more strategic individual to take the helm.
I cannot adequately express how grateful I am that Nick Adolphsen is that individual. I have led several ministry rebuilds over the years, and all those turnarounds eventually led to a time when transition to new leadership was necessary. I’ve never been more optimistic or enthusiastic about a leadership change than what the League is about to experience.
I’ve had my eye on Nick since he started serving in the Lepage administration at 25. Even then, it was evident that he was a committed, talented, mature Christian, and any team would benefit from his involvement. Upon leaving the Lepage team, Nick became an integral part of the Foundation for Government Accountability, advocating for conservative policy reform in state capitols nationwide. For the last few years, he has also served as a part-time consultant for the League.
Nick will become the Executive Director on January 1, 2025. I will remain on the team until the end of June to assist with the transition, focusing on development and strengthening the Church Ambassador Network.
Nick and his lovely wife, Hannah, have five children they homeschool. They attend Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church in Rockland, where his father pastors and Nick leads the worship. His testimony of integrity and respect gives the League instant credibility with those familiar with him in Augusta and abroad.
Big changes in an organization often necessitate other changes that are more challenging. Mike McClellan, who has been our Policy Director for 7 years, finished his tenure at the end of November. Mike has been a faithful and loyal deputy through some challenging days in the Statehouse, and I am so appreciative for all his work. I know many of you share my appreciation and if you would like to reach out to him, you can do so at mmcclell@maine.rr.com.
If you receive our emails, you know we fell short of our $150,000 goal for Pews to the Polls and absorbed expenses we could not avoid related to our campaign activities. Now it’s time for our end-of-year campaign, which helps us plan for the coming year. I have not received clear direction from the Lord regarding our goal. So, I’m asking you, our ministry partners, for two things before you hear from me again:
*Pray for direction regarding our end-of-the-year campaign goal
*Pray what the Lord would have you to do
I know the announcement of my stepping down as an Executive Director may surprise many of you, but I want you to know that Terri, the board, and I have been praying about this for some time. A letter like this does not seem sufficient to express my appreciation for all of you who have supported me and the League since I began. One thing I’ve learned is that God is faithful and will provide as long as the mission of the League is bringing a Biblical perspective to public policy.
