Dear Friend,

I sit down to pen this letter one day after nineteen children and two teachers lost their lives in a Texas elementary school shooting. While there are sharp disagreements about the solutions to gun violence, there is one thing upon which we can all agree:  This tragedy is especially grievous because it snuffed out innocent, defenseless lives. Yet, we live in a state governed by leaders who ignore the sanctity of life, and are enthusiastically devoted to protecting the “right” to end the lives of Maine’s youngest and most vulnerable children before they take a breath.

I believe we have a historic opportunity to change the culture of death that dominates Maine politics. Common sense Mainers, regardless of party affiliation, are fed up with soaring fuel and energy prices, inflation, and an educational system that undermines parental rights. Fair-minded citizens are seeing the injustice of women being deprived of privacy and opportunity by an extreme transgender advocacy. Voters are recognizing the absurdity of kindergartners being taught that doctors often make mistakes about a child’s gender at birth.

We must be stewards of the opportunity for change. Significant and positive change will not occur without boldness, courage, and strategic, intense effort. Typically, during election years, the League raises $100,000 to produce and distribute our voter guides along with our get-out-the-vote efforts. Most of that funding is for 501(c)(3) activities and therefore tax deductible.

In addition to those activities, it is critical for the League to significantly invest in campaign activity. That is why we just secured one of the most sought after, effective campaign consultants in the country. We are thrilled to welcome Matt Hutson to the League team. Some of you will recognize Matt’s name from his time as Congressman Bruce Poliquin’s Chief of Staff.

We believe one of the most important things we can do to get pro-life, pro-family candidates elected is to recruit and train campaign volunteers. Matt Hutson and Mike McClellan will be teaming up this election cycle to recruit and train an army of citizens who are committed to supporting good candidates.

Our first training is scheduled for July 16. Go to cclmaine.org and click on the Events tab for details about this day-long training with national and local experts. If you want to learn more about being a campaign volunteer, contact Mike McClellan at policy@cclmaine.org.

Last month, we celebrated exceeding our goal of $40,000 for the Beacon Campaign. Now, I am asking you to pray and consider participating in our $150,000 Pews to the Polls Campaign. Fundraising is the least favorite part of my job, but I know what is at stake here in Maine and America. Let us call upon the Lord and ask what part we all are to play to see Maine become a state where God is honored, religious freedom flourishes, families thrive, and life is cherished.
