Dear Friend,

Wow! 2020 is here and the League team is in full throttle. The legislature is in session, and this is the earliest we’ve ever had to fully engage in lobbying against harmful bills. Here are the issues we are battling in Augusta:

  • Gambling Expansion– We are presently supporting Gov. Mills’ Veto of LD 533 which would legalize sports betting in Maine. We also anticipate an attempt to open another casino in our state.
  • Marijuana: There are bills we are watching regarding distribution and other regulations involving recreational sales of marijuana.
  • ERA: Our number one priority in this session is stopping the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment. If this amendment to our constitution passes, it will have grave consequences regarding abortion funding and dangerous threats to our religious freedoms.

Our Beacon Campaign provides the resources for these legislative activities. As I mentioned, we are in high gear on this front and already have expenses. We will need $30,000 to effectively combat these bad bills. Please don’t wait to make your gift to the Beacon Campaign either by including a designated gift with your coupon or click here to give online.
The Beacon Campaign will also fund our efforts to get Maine‘s pro-life citizens out to vote on March 3rd. We fully support the Yes on 1 campaign to overturn the mandated vaccine bill which totally ignores parental rights and disregards our religious freedoms. To learn more about the Yes on 1 campaign, go to rejectbigpharma.com. We must show up and vote on Tuesday, March 3.

Last week, our Board of Directors met for our annual meeting where we approved our budget and elected officers. In order for the League to meet its potential to be a positive influence in our state and be an effective resource to the church, we approved a budget requiring a 25% increase in our revenues. These increases are necessary for the League to:

Continue training churches to host job fairs
Our Better Work program is showing Maine communities that we care and the church has solutions for some of our society‘s greatest challenges, offering the dignity of work to individuals overcoming addictions, criminal records, and other employment challenges.

Walk into the halls of our government and witness pastors praying for and with our state leaders and their staff
Tristan Starbird has launched our Church Ambassador Network [CAN] here in the Capital.

Provide reliable voter guides and promote candidates who will defend our values
In addition to the never-ending legislative battles in Augusta and DC, 2020 is an election year. So, once again, Mike McClellan and the League team will be working to provide reliable voter guides and promoting candidates who will defend our values.
I make no apologies in asking you to either join us as a ministry partner or to increase your support. I don’t believe the League has begun to realize its potential to positively influence our state. I believe we are making a difference in challenging times, but I am fully convinced we could do much more to advocate for God’s truth. We are counting on you to pray, to give, and to encourage others to join the League team.

It is our desire to be used of God to inform and inspire His people in Maine. I am not discouraged; I am truly optimistic about the opportunities for us to combat the darkness with His light. I’m asking you to prayerfully consider your role in supporting this great work. Let us strive together to see Maine become a state where God is honored, religious freedom flourishes, families thrive, and life is cherished.

P.S. I’m excited to announce we have rescheduled our Aroostook County event that we had to cancel last November. On Saturday, February 8 at 2:30 PM, we will be at the Celebration Center on 170 Houlton Road in Fort Fairfield. Click here for more details.
