LD 820 - Tax-Funded Abortions

Summary and Update
LD 820 would force Maine citizens to pay for abortions with their tax dollars. It also would force family-owned businesses to cover abortion services in their health insurance benefit packages. We had a very effective public hearing, and the work session produced a partisan 8-5 vote in favor of the bill. The only way this bill is stopped is if your legislators hear your opposition.

We believe there’s a good chance the House will be voting on LD 820 on Tuesday, May 7. I can’t emphasize how important it is for you to call and email your legislators. Go to the following web address http://bit.ly/LD-820 to e-mail your legislature. It is always more effective to personalize your message using some of our talking points rather than just sending the email as is.

If you’d like to email from your own email client, you can go to our website cclmaine.org, click on FIND YOUR LEGISLATOR, fill in your address info, click search by address, and it will populate who your legislators are.  If you click on their name, their contact info will come up.

If you call your representative during business hours,
use 287–1400. If you are calling on the weekend or after hours, use 800-423–2900. Give your name, your town, and ask your state representative to vote against LD 820.

For any questions regarding LD-820, you can email the CCL Policy Director, Mike McClellan at policy@cclmaine.org
