Dear Friend,
Imagine a sixteen-year-old girl going to Bible camp to be a counselor for the summer. Because she isn’t feeling well due to difficulty sleeping, she goes to the camp nurse. During the conversation, she tells the nurse she was molested by an older, male relative when she was fourteen. Before the assault, she liked boys, but now a growing distrust of men has evolved into hatred and anger toward men. She confesses to the nurse that she is attracted to the other girls in her cabin, and that is why she is not sleeping. The teen then tells the nurse she knows these feelings are not consistent with what her family believes and what her church teaches. The feelings are, in fact, unwanted, and she asks the nurse to help her.
If LD 912, the Conversion Therapy Ban, passes and the nurse does anything but affirm this young girl’s unwanted same-sex attraction, she could lose her license and be sued for fraud.
As unbelievable as that sounds, LD 912 would prohibit anyone who receives compensation for counseling a minor from discussing gender or sexual orientation from a biblical perspective. This includes pastors and other clergy! We must, and we will fight this invasion of privacy, disregard of parental rights, and attack upon the First Amendment.
I am so thankful one of our generous families has offered a $20,000 challenge grant to help us raise the $40,000 necessary to fight LD 912 and other battles facing us in this legislative session. Here’s what you can do to help:

I just got word today there are legislators attempting to repeal the legalization of recreational marijuana. The League needs to stand by these courageous leaders. Please make sure we have the weapons necessary to win. Our state does not need legalized pot; Maine does not need a conversion therapy ban. Please partner with the League that we may see Maine become a state where God is honored, religious freedom flourishes, families thrive, and life is cherished.
