About US

Christian Civic League of Maine

Founded in 1897, the Christian Civic League of Maine is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing a biblical perspective to public policy issues that impact faith, family, and freedom.

Our Vision

We envision a state and a nation where:

  • God is honored in our laws, culture, and communities.
  • Religious freedom flourishes, ensuring individuals, churches, and businesses can live out their faith without fear.
  • Families thrive, protected from government overreach and harmful ideologies.
  • Life is cherished, from conception to natural death.

To fulfill this vision, we ADVOCATE for public policies that uphold biblical truth and protect the values that strengthen families and communities. We ENGAGE the Church, families, and businesses—mobilizing them to have an active voice in their government at the Statehouse, city hall, and beyond. We EQUIP the Church and the next generation with the resources, training, and knowledge they need to stand firm and respond to today’s cultural and political challenges.

Our Work

Located just minutes from the Maine Statehouse in Augusta, we closely monitor legislative activity, engage with lawmakers, and ensure that biblical values have a voice in policy debates. We partner with pastors and churches, provide educational seminars, and mobilize believers to stand boldly for truth.

From defending life and parental rights to protecting religious freedom and increasing educational opportunities for families, the Christian Civic League is committed to restoring Maine’s Biblical foundation through cultural and legislative engagement.

Together, we will fight for a Maine where faith leads, families are strong, and freedom prevails.

Our Team

Nick Adolphsen, Executive Director

Nick Adolphsen is a lifelong Mainer who grew up as the son of a pastor/carpenter, instilling in him a deep faith and a commitment to hard work, service, and standing for truth.

He began his career as a carpenter and laborer before beginning his work in public service and politics as Director of Government Affairs at the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and later as Senior Health Policy Advisor to Governor Paul LePage. He then served as a State Affairs Director at the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA), helping pass conservative policy reforms nationwide.

Now, as Executive Director of the Christian Civic League of Maine, Nick is committed to mobilizing the Church, defending biblical values, and equipping believers to stand for truth in the public square. He believes Maine thrives when families are strong, churches are engaged, and policies protect life, liberty, and faith.

Nick and his wife, Hannah, live in Maine with their five children, raising them with the same love for faith, family, and the outdoors that shaped his own life. He is active in his local church and enjoys mountain biking, lifting, cutting firewood, and home projects with his boys. His passion for history fuels his conviction that Maine’s best days lie ahead if we stand with conviction for biblical truth.

Carroll Conley, Church Ambassador Network Director

Carroll Conley, an 11th-generation Mainer, was raised in north-central Maine, where his parents faithfully took him to the United Baptist Church in Milo. After graduating from Bangor Christian Schools, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Pensacola Christian College. In 1999, he received a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from the University of Maine in Orono.

Carroll’s career in education began at New Testament Christian School in Norton, Massachusetts, where he served as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and principal from 1981 to 1992. In 1992, he returned to Maine to become Headmaster at Bangor Christian Schools, also serving as Music Director and Advancement Director at Bangor Baptist Ministries (now Crosspoint Church) until 2010. During his tenure, he led the Northeast Principal’s Association and served on the Executive Committee of the Maine Principal’s Association.

In July 2010, Carroll became the Executive Director of the Christian Civic League of Maine, a role he held for 15 years. He now leads the League’s Church Ambassador Network, inspiring churches to engage with the government to advance God’s Kingdom.

Married to his wife, Terri, since 1980, Carroll is a proud father of two married sons and grandfather to six grandchildren.
