Dear Friends,
One of the great blessings of leading a ministry like the Christian Civic League is the opportunity to partner with like-minded organizations and individuals here in Maine and nationally. We are privileged to work with national partners, like the Family Policy Alliance, Alliance Defending Freedom, Family Research Council, and First Liberty—just to name a few. Even though we are a small state, the League acts as a conduit to bring these much-needed resources to help us execute our mission.
A new partnership has recently materialized with Speak Up for Life, founded by Rep. Laurel Libby in response to abortion proponents’ threat to remove all restrictions here in Maine. Rep. Libby has organized Speak Up for Life events all over the state to equip pro-life citizens to be effective advocates. The first Speak Up for Life event was in Auburn on a sub-arctic Saturday, with over two hundred Mainers showing up. Since then, these sessions have occurred in Rockland, Bangor, and Waterville, with over six hundred participants.
Presently, two more Speak Up for Life events are scheduled.
- Thursday evening, March 2nd at the Apostolic Church in Mexico
- Saturday morning, March 11th at the Framework Church in Presque Isle.
Go to www.speakupforlife.com for details and registration. Watch this website for future events.
Of course, a long-standing partnership here in Maine has been with our Life Coalition, comprised of the Christian Civic League, the Catholic Diocese of Portland, Maine Right to Life, Concerned Women for America, and a new addition—Students for Life. I thank God for the cooperation among these pro-life organizations to advocate for truth and defend the unborn here in Maine. Unfortunately, this unity and cooperation is not the case in all states—it truly is a blessing. Mark April 4th on your calendar; Maine Right to Life will be hosting Hands at the Capital, and the Life Coalition is helping promote this event, calling on pro-life Mainers to show up to the capital. Plan on being there to hear inspirational speakers, but most importantly, this is an opportunity show our legislators we are serious about the sanctity of human life.
The Christian Civic League and the Life Coalition are on high alert as we mentioned in our last newsletter. It is no exaggeration to say there is an all-out assault upon the unborn here in our state. I am so thankful for the response that we have seen to the Speak Up for Life events as we approach the time when we will be addressing these issues in the legislature. We will need every pro-life voice to effectively reach out to their leaders. To see the bills we are watching regarding the life issue, go to cclmaine.org and click on the red Life Issue Bills banner at the top of our homepage, or if you are a digital reader, click here.
Also at the top of our homepage is our Beacon Campaign banner. The Beacon Campaign funds, not only our legislative activities, but also allows us to support and promote local activities like Speak Up for Life. Just think about all the expenses in our advocacy and training on the state and local levels: printed material, social media, T-shirts, travel expenses, polling, consulting fees, and so many other expenses related to our training and lobbying activities. Without your support of our Beacon Campaign, we couldn’t possibly be present to make a possible positive difference in our state. I ask you to prayerfully consider making a generous donation to our Beacon Campaign.
Speaking of partnerships, I want to ask prayer for our board member, Brett Baber. He is the local counsel for the family in the Damariscotta whose daughter was encouraged to transition her gender without parental knowledge or consent. Brett is working with the national law firm, the Goldwater Institute.
There is no question we face many challenges, but we can’t grow weary in well-doing. Thank you in advance for your prayers and financial support.
