As many of you may be aware, last week the Maine House of Representatives voted against LD 327 by just one vote. LD 327 would allow grieving families to file a wrongful death claim for the loss of an unborn child in cases of wrongdoing. This vote was a disappointing outcome, though it was the closest that legislation of this kind has come to passage in the House.
The League, though, is not giving up! In fact, the bill has a strong chance for passage as it makes its way to the Senate and then back to the House in the coming days. But we need your help! If you have not done so already, please contact your representative and senator and ask them to vote in favor of LD 327.
You can send a message to your legislators through our Citizen Action Center by clicking here or you can call the following numbers and leave messages for your representative and senator:
Senate Office: (207) 287-1540
House Office: (207) 287- 1400
We want to thank all of those who have already contacted their legislators and asked them to support the bill. We know that it makes a difference! If you know that your representative supported the bill during last week’s vote, it is always a good idea to thank him or her. They could certainly use the encouragement! To see how your representative voted, click here. (NOTE: Because of the particular motion made regarding the bill, an “N” next to a legislator’s name means support for the bill).
Thanks again for all your prayers and support.
