We want to thank everyone who reached out in emails and phone calls to their legislators to ask them to defeat LD 347. Over 200 of you reached out to our website to communicate your opposition to physician assisted suicide being legalized here in Maine. Last Thursday’s one vote defeat in the Senate certainly was discouraging, but the Life Coalition (CCL, Portland Diocese, Maine Right to Life, Concerned Women for America) and other opponents of this bill did not give up. We turned our efforts towards the House. Those efforts resulted in a resounding 85–61 defeat of this bill. Just yesterday, the bill got the final nail in the coffin when the Senate agreed with the House. I also want to thank the bipartisan support from our House and Senate leadership who worked with us during this process. Thanks again to everyone; without question, your voices made a difference.
